TTK Prestige Ltd, a part of the Rs 500 crore TTK Group, has been certified for ISO 9001 by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI).

"We are extremely happy by the certification as it covers all our functions, design, manufacture, marketing, sales and servicing. We are the first and only kitchenware company to have the certificate," said TTK Group managing director T T Jagannathan, receiving the certificate from P B Warrier of BVQI.

TTK Prestige which claims to have pioneered pressure cooking in India since 1948, is one of the leading pressure cooker brands. It has a 25 per cent share of the 5 million Indian pressure cooker market, which is expected to grow by 10-12 per cent a year. Its pressure cookers and non-stickware are made in plants in Bangalore and Hosur.

"This certification is crucial for our export markets, especially because our primary product is a pressure cooker. We have product certification from other major international bodies too. We hope to sell in Europe, Australia, Middle-East and South Asia. We are already the largest selling pressure cooker brand in the US. We want to be an Indian multinational," said Mr Jagannathan.

Prestige can proudly claim to have built an Indian brand in the US, with its Manttra range. Its export earnings were $4 million in 1997-98 and expected to grow to $10 million in 1998-99.

Prestige will sell its products in Britain under the brand name Judge.

"It is more difficult to build an Indian brand in Europe. Moreover, Prestige of Britain has been taken over by a Chinese company and we had to establish ourselves before the Prestige brand was launched by the new owners. So, we decided to sell our products under an existing brand name," Jagannathan told Business Standard.
