The Rs 5,500 crore TVS group is poised to join the global vendor-base of the world's largest automobile company, General Motors (GM).

"TVS group companies are in various stages of commencing supplies to General Motors," vice-president, purchase & supply, General Motors, India said.

He was speaking at the Supplier of the year award function, which was presented to Sundram Fasteners for the second year in a row.

"Wheels India has already started supplies to General Motors in Egypt and Lucas TVS has been put on General Motor's prospective vendor list for the supply of wiper motors and linkages," he said.

Sundram Fasteners, which had started supplies to GM through radiator caps has also started supplying powder metal parts. Sundram Fasteners, chairman and managing director said that General Motors, India is also actively considering sourcing fasteners from their company. General Motors has set an internal target of facilitating atleast 12 export contracts to Indian component units before the end of 1999.
