Boehringer Mannheim India Ltd (BMIL) employees have petitioned the government asking it to permit re-opening of BMIL's Thane plant. In a letter to the Maharashtra health minister, BMIL union general secretary A S Bhosle said 200 innocent employees are suffering due to closure of BMIL's Thane plant after the Comsat Forte incident.
The letter said workers are convinced that with measures planned by Nicholas Piramal's new management, the plant can operate with good manufacturing practices (GMP). Company sources said NPIL filed a request with FDA for re-opening BMIL's plant and FDA has asked the company to look into the reasons behind the episode and the events leading up to it.
The committee set up for recommending relief measures for victims of the Comsat Forte tragedy, had asked them to provide compensation, depending on the nature and extent of injury caused to the victims and the measures have been implemented.
