Wider Highway For Orissa Soon

Four-lane facilities would be provided to the 1,706 km stretch of national highway passing through Orissa, minister of state for surface transport Debendra Pradhan said. With a coal company proposed to be set up here, the Centre proposed to improve Talcher-Rourkela, Ta- lcher-Duburi, Talcher-Gopal- pur, Bargarh-Boriguma, Cutt- ack-Paradip and Bhubaneswar-Puri roads to international standards. The new coal company would be set up in Talcher due to its high production of 20 million tonnes per annum. In 1997-98 the production in Talcher coalfields, which is now under Mahanadi coalfields, was 30 million tonnes, Pradhan said.
