ICC T20 cricket world cup tickets have been sold to residents in 82 countries, with the maximum number having been picked up by Australian residents, who bought 500,000 of them till October 22.

Among the overseas markets, the UK is currently placed at No.1 with 22,000 tickets, followed by India (16,000). Tourism Australia expects 18,000-20,000 Indians to attend the World Cup.

Said Nishant Kashikar, country manager, Tourism Australia:  “After a remarkable victory for team India, I am confident that we will see a surge in enquiries and visits for the remainder of the games, including the semi-finals and finals.”

Ticket sales are still on, and the tournament’s local organising committee estimates over 800,000 fans to attend the 45 matches in the tournament.

There has been a 35-40 per cent surge in demand for trips to Australia starting as early as June. In addition to leisure/cricket fans and HNI/UHNIs, we have booked several mid to large sized corporate MICE (meeting, incentive, exhibition, conference) groups of 100-1000. India’s win on Sunday has certainly played a big role in sustaining the uptick and we have received queries from small ad hoc groups. Given the logistics and visas, turning around new requests will be a challenge – MeeraCharnalia, senior vice president and head (MICE), Thomas Cook India.
