It came down to the ninth shot as India and New Zealand were tied 4-4 after the first eight shots in the shoot-out. Sam Lane scored for the Kiwis as he reversed his mistake from the first round of shots. However, Samsher Singh of India was unable to reverse his mistake from the first round of shots and missed two in two. In sudden death, if you miss a shot, you are gone, especially if the team taking the penalty before you have scored. 

 

So India’s dreams of a World Cup medal have dashed down again and it would now have to wait at least three more years to try and get a Hockey World Cup medal.

Nilam Sanjeev Xess got close to Child with the ball in the air and the Kiwis got a penalty corner. The ball wasn’t really trapped well by the Kiwi Ken Russell but Amith Rohidas, the first rusher gave the ball to Child who hit for the goal and Sean Finlday at the near corner trapped and pushed the ball past the Indian goalkeeper to get the equaliser for the Kwis

New Zealand have come back in the game right at halftime as Simon Child, Finley and Sam Lane executed a great play to get the game. Finley got the ball near the Indian 30-meter mark and then passed it to Child who ran on the backline and passed it parallel to Krishan Pathak and past him to Lane on the far post who was kneeling with his stick on the hockey line and got the ball into the goal.
