Bharti Airtel, the market leader in the Orissa telecom space, has maintained its dominant position and reached a subscriber base of around 42 lakh.

Deepak Srivastava, chief executive officer of Bharti Airtel's Kolkata, West Bengal and Orissa circles said, “We have already reached a subscriber base of around 42 lakh in Orissa. Presently, Airtel's network covers about 90 per cent of the population in the state and our aim is to extend our network further.”

Though we are present in all districts of Orissa, there are some hilly regions which are not covered and we would like to be present in these regions, he said.

Asked on the plans to expand coverage in the Naxalite infested regions of the state, Srivastava said, the mobile service provider would be cautious in its expansion plans in such regions.

Commenting on Bharti Airtel's campus in the city, he said, “Our campus is ready and it will be opened in the next two months.”

Bharti Airtel is setting up a Bharti campus on two acres of land close to the Infocity region in the city. The Bharti campus with a total built-up area of 70,000 sq ft would offer centralized office space for carrying out the company’s operations in telecom, direct to home (DTH) and insurance services in Orissa.

Airtel announced the launch of its unlimited internet browsing on its 2.5 G network in Orissa.

This facility would allow the Airtel customers to enjoy internet surfing on their mobile phones anywhere in the country with zero roaming charges.
