Avtar Saini, who was responsible for setting up the Intel Development Centre in India, has quit Intel. Saini was country manager & director of Intel South Asia and then a consultant for around 4 months prior to his exit.

A spokesperson from Intel India said: "Avtar Saini left Intel India early January. From being country manager of Intel South Asia, Saini had moved onto be a consultant for Intel and Amar Babu has taken over from his as country head."

"Saini opted out of Intel to spend more time with his family. If he would have been country manager and had retired from Intel, we would have surely issued a statement. Since he was a consultant when he left Intel, there was no need to announce his exit," the official said.

In August 2003, Intel India had announced that Saini will act as strategic consultant and drive strategic programs designed to help change the slope of the PC growth curve in India.

During his stint as director - South Asia, Saini was responsible for sales and marketing, strategic investments, initiatives driving PC literacy and technology development.

Saini said: "I exited Intel as I found growth plateauing. I am looking at various options now. As a technology person and I will be more of a strategic consultant to a few companies."

Saini spent around 23 years in Intel's various operations and was in charge of Intel South Asia for nearly 4 years. Saini was responsible for setting up the India Development Centre which employs 1,700 professionals and the centre is working on some of Intel's entire product development cycles. Saini holds 7 patents for his work on micro-processor design.
