Canon India eyes Bhutan

Digital imaging company Canon India Pvt Ltd is planning to set up its operations in Bhutan. The company has sought government approvals and expects its operations to commence by September or October.

"We see a good potential for our printers and other products including multi-functional devices (MFDs), colour laser copiers and scanners in Bhutan. The country's per capita income is higher than that of India, an evidence that there is a potential market for our products out there," a top executive of the company told Business Standard.

Canon India, a subsidiary of global imaging major Canon Singapore Pte Ltd, intends to set up an office in the capital of the Himalayan kingdom, Thimphu.

However, planned investments and the number of employees to be recruited were not divulged. In India, the company aims to capture 23 per cent of the Rs 450 crore office systems and solutions market.

As part of this strategy, the company has launched 17 new MFDs and document imaging products targeted at workgroup, departmental and enterprise segments.

Talking at the launch, Canon India vice-president Alok Bharadwaj said, "We intend to capture at least Rs 100 crore of the total office systems and solutions market in the next couple of years."

The other products in the segment are large format printers, high-speed document and cheque scanners, enterprise document management software and variable data printing software.
