eBay India, one of India’s leading e-commerce marketplace, has rated Mumbai as the biggest IPL city on eBay with maximum IPL merchandise being bought in Mumbai. Interestingly, the southern metros of Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai were in the second, third and fourth position with Delhi making it to the fifth place.
Deepa Thomas, senior manager – pop culture, eBay India, said, “IPL has fans from 170 cities and 11 countries buying IPL merchandise on eBay India. In India, IPL is no longer a metro phenomenon with tier II cities like Tirupur and Bhubaneshwar making their debut in the top 10 IPL cities.“
In an update of the popular team popularity barometer, eBay revealed that 2009 champions Deccan Chargers continues to lead at 29 per cent with Mumbai Indians making their debut in second position at 19 per cent and Kolkata Knight Riders slipping to third place at 13 per cent.
The IPL merchandise on offer on eBay India includes jerseys, t-shirts, caps, footwear and a wide range of fan gear from backpacks, key chains, fan capes, bottle chillers, collectibles, cheering sticks, tattoos, wrist bands and even trumpets from all eight teams. Sports fans from Saudi Arabia, Australia and UK are joining Indian sports lovers in buying IPL merchandise.
