The company, one of the pioneers of the tablet PC in India, has made the move into lifestyle accessories following its entry into direct retailing with 'Cubit Alleys', which is a chain of exclusive laptop galleries.
The diversification into lifestyle accessories is set to happen in February-March this year and will see the company launch products like MP4s, hi-tech cameras, connecting devices, access points, and goggles enabled with MP3s.
"While we concentrate on our range of laptops, it makes sense to introduce a range of lifestyle accessories, which are complementary to our core business of laptop technology," said Suresh Nair, CEO and MD, Cubit Computers.
In the recent past, the company had established a Wi-Fi spot in Delhi Public School, Bopal, and is eyeing more educational institutes in the city for the same. "Talks are on with various educational institutes as well the local media club in the city to equip them with Wi-Fi hotspots as this has seen a huge interest in the recent times," said Nair.
The company plans to set up 20 retail outlets of its 'Cubit Alley' retail chain in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat in the coming few months. The outlets would be routed through the franchisee model and would stock the company's laptop, desktop and lifestyle accessory range.
"Considering that the laptop market in India is expected to grow 140 per cent in the coming few years, there are plans to increase our production capacity from the current 15,000 units to substantial numbers," added Nair.
