Educomp acquires 51% in Learning.com for Rs 105 cr

Delhi-based Educomp Solutions has acquired a 51 per cent stake in US-based web-delivered curriculum provider, Learning.com for around Rs 105 crore. The deal includes the purchase of existing shares as well as an infusion of new capital into the company. This is Educomp's second strategic investment after the acquisition of Singapore-based Ask n Learn "" a K12 company.

"The company has a large content developing competence in India due to which we can take our intellectual property to schools in the US. Apart from that we have mined cross border synergies," said Shantanu Prakash, managing director, Educomp Solutions. The company also plans to customise the course curriculum according to the Indian standards in three-four months.

Founded in 1999, Learning.com is a provider of web-delivered curriculum and assessment, and partners with schools in the US to improve students' learning outcomes. It currently serves nearly two million students across the US.

"Educomp's investment in Learning.com is to leverage the company's proven competencies in developing innovative web-delivered curriculum solutions. We currently serve four million students in the country and with the acquisition, the number has increased to six million," Prakash said.

"Investment from Educomp will allow Learning.com to move quickly to create both the best digital curriculum solutions, and intuitive features," said William J Kelly, founder of Learning.com.

Learning.com's web-delivered solutions include EasyTech, a K-8 technology literacy curriculum.

Besides, TechLiteracy Assessment, a technology proficiency assessment, helps educators to understand how well students grasp foundational technology skills; and Aha!Math, an interactive K-5 supplemental mathematics curriculum hepls teachers to improve students' foundational skills in mathematics while developing their higher level problem-solving and reasoning skills.
