Telecom service provider Reliance Communications (RCom) has said the company has met all rollout obligations, as prescribed in the licence conditions. CDMA mobile player RCom was allowed to offer GSM mobile services under government’s dual technology policy in 2008.
In a letter to department of telecommunications (DoT) secretary R Chandrashekhar, RCom said it has met all rollout obligations as stipulated in the license conditions on both CDMA and GSM platforms.
It said the company will offer additional information to the department on this issue, if required. A licensee has to cover atleast 10 per cent of the district headquarters in the first year and 50 per cent in three years from the date of migration, according to the licence conditions.
The statement came after telecom regulator TRAI recommendation of cancellation of licenses of some service providers including Uninor, Loop Telecom, Sistema Shyam and Etisalat DB for not meeting rollout conditions as prescribed. TRAI has recommended the cancellation of 69 of the 127 unified access service licences issued by the government since 2006 for the failure by operators to meet their roll-out obligations or providing very poor coverage.
