IBM India, on Tuesday claimed that it has recorded the highest revenue growth in the external storage market in India in the third quarter (July-September 2005), outpacing the industry with a growth rate of 182 per cent.

The overall external storage market growth in India is about 48 per cent.

Quoting the IDC Asia-Pacific quarterly storage tracker, November 2005, IBM India said it has clocked a 10.6 point market share gain year-on-year.

"With a growth of 182 per cent YoY in customer revenues, IBM has outpaced the overall external storage market growth of 48 per cent in India," said Alok Ohrie, country manager, systems and technology group, IBM India.

The total size of the external storage market in India, according to the IDC tracker, is about $44.98 million in 3Q 2005. In the last year, IBM India experienced a strong growth in the external storage space, moving up from the fifth position at the end of 2004 to second in the third quarter of 2005 in customer revenues.

Ohrie added that the adoption of IBM's latest DS8000 and DS 6000 systems "has been on track" and IBM's continued focus on delivering solutions that improve each client's information infrastructure is a key reason for the success.

Sanjit Sinha, senior manager, hardware research, IDC India said, "IBM have set a new milestone for itself in India in the external storage space. An enhanced product range complemented an aggressive channels strategy and focus on the SMB space besides large enterprises has been significant contributors to IBM's success in this market."

IBM India in its systems storage agenda, in October, had made an underlying commitment to bring more open and innovative solutions and advanced virtualisation technology for the clients and also introduced new products to its offering portfolio.

Additionally, this year IBM also announced a strategic storage relationship with Network Appliances to enhance its NAS portfolio for the SMBs.
