The bigwigs of the Indian business world were under one roof here today, but not to discuss business strategies or the economy. It was to attend the wedding reception of Infosys’ legendary chairman, N R Narayana Murthy’s son, Rohan, and Lakshmi, daughter of Venu Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Motor, and Mallika Srinivasan, chairman, TAFE.
Security was tight at the event, which started at 12.30 pm. Guests who intended to gift the couples were requested to donate the same to the Akashaya Patra Foundation, an organisation that runs a mid-day meal programme for schools here. Around 1,000 members, both relatives and guests, attended the event.
Last Sunday, Rohan and Lakshmi had got married at a traditional function in Chennai at the house of A Ananthakrishnan Iyer, father of the late Amalgamations Group chairman, A Sivasailam.
The reception today was attended by prominent members from across the spectrum, from the government and policy makers, to cricketers and others.
All decked in traditional attire, they came to wish the couple at the private function. Wipro chairman Azim Premji came wearing kurta-pyjama and Kaushik Basu, the Union government’s chief economic advisor, came in traditional Bengali dhoti-kurta and so forth. Infosys’ founding team members — ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan, S D Shibulal, Nandan Nilekani, et. al., attended. So did state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Union external affairs minister, S M Krishna.
Other prominent members from the corporate world were the chariman of ICICI Bank, K V Kamath; Accenture India chairman Harsh Manglik; IBM India MD, Shanker Annaswamy; Zensar’s Ganesh Natarajan, Biocon chairman Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, former Microsoft India chairman Ravi Venkatesan and MindTree founder Ashok Soota. Former Indian cricketers Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble were also present.
