The appreciation of the rupee against the US dollar is unlikely to alter the export target of the Indian IT industry for the year 2010, Nasscom has said.

The Nasscom has projected the Indian IT exports to touch $60 billion by 2010 from the existing $32 billion.

"We are confident of meeting our 2010 export targets despite the rupee appreciation," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik told reporters on Wednesday.

He said the IT industry anticipated the rupee to appreciate further this year. "Well, it is one of the issues concerning the industry. But we are worried over the speed of appreciation. It (rupee) rose too much fast," he added.

Karnik said the industry was still watching the US economic scenario.

"There are two views on the anticipated economic slowdown in the US. There can be an upside, but we don't know. But there are clear indications that the Indian IT industry will benefit either way," he contended.
