Don't want to miss the best from Business Standard?

My favourite gourmet and food writer Nigella Lawson’s famous quote “You could probably get through life without knowing how to roast a chicken, but the question is, would you want to?” crossed my mind at the very first moment as I saw LG’s convection microwave with charcoal lighting heater.

Roasting chicken at my Delhi house, an unfulfilled dream till now, which was constrained by lack of proper cooking utensils like traditional tandoori oven, finally seems to have come true.

Cooking utensils, according to gourmets, play a major role in helping bring out the proper harmony of taste, texture and aroma in a dish. Thanks to the LG microwave’s charcoal technology, the roasted chicken came out well on the very first attempt. I, aspired to be a chef someday, which looks a distant dream at the moment due to a loss of appetite for culinary experiments, was pleasantly surprised with the flavour: It tasted like it was cooked in a traditional oven.

But, how many would take the pain of the exhaustive preparation required for such recipes and the complicated, for first-time user, cooking procedure.

Though the company has an arrangement of providing three training classes for free, using this kind of microwave, which requires proper understanding of all the processes and techniques it imbibes beautifully without compromising the look, one needs, I feel, at least a three-month extensive training to use it up to the optimum. Once you master the usage, function and techniques, the microwave will be your ‘all weather, all purpose, all recipes and all-in-one cooking solution’ utensil, as the company claims. For example: To whet the appetite of South Indians, you can make crispy dosa (first time dosa can be cooked in a microwave), and prepare desi ghee (clarified butter) for north Indians.

It has infused many traditional Indian dishes in its recipes books, such as Indian roti baskets which include tandoori Rotis, thepla, missi rotis, naans, lachcha paranthas and Appams; and tandoori baskets, apart from the diet version of all the Indians crispy snacks.

Now, the odour of spill-over or burnt milk is a thing of past with this microwave’s special feature for pasteurising milk that boils without any spill-overs. Now, you can find a happy me in my clean kitchen. Back home in Odisha, my mother, whose only concern in the Universe is my health and eating habits, also looks less tensed these days knowing that I have started drinking milk regularly.

For a newbie cook’s delight, the microwave comes with 365 auto cook menu feature. Just following the recipe book, though a tiresome job, he can treat his taste buds and also flaunt his cooking skill to his friends with some interesting traditional Indian foods with rich Hindustani flavor or any continental dish from the 21 recipes offer by this microwave.

The recently launched microwave, a very low-maintenance one, comes with two different colours— red and black and priced at Rs 23,970. It is well-designed which makes it light weight. It too has given special attention to child safety.

Rajiv Jain, business head (home appliances), LG said, “This product is developed based on unique Indian Insights and I am sure it will definitely change people perception about cooking in a microwave.
