Mumbai-based IT solutions firm Mastek, as a part of the consortium led by UK-based Thales, has bagged a contract worth £27 million (Rs 213 crore), to be implemented over a period of 10 years, from the Bristish defence ministry.

The consortium, consisting of Thales, Mastek, Fujitsu Services and Flyware, has developed a software solution called Swift2Move to meet the MoD's requirement to manage and schedule global air movements of troops and cargo, which will be deployed over the defence information infrastructure (DII).

Scott Hamilton, director (government and new markets), Mastek UK, said, "Mastek has considerable experience of delivering large-scale, ground-breaking IT projects. This deal demonstrates Mastek's commitment to work with Thales and provide truly innovative solutions for the global defence industry."

R S Desikan, CFO and director finance, Mastek, said, "This also gives us an opportunity to look at other global deals. At present, we would like to focus on the European market with this solution."

The company considers defence as a subset of its government vertical, which contributes 45 per cent to its revenues.
