MNP to invest $10 mn

MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions India, a joint venture company of Telcordia Technologies, Inc will invest up to $10 million to build infrastructure for implementation of number portability services in India. The company also expects close to 10 per cent growth in its India business now that the market for number portability services has opened up.

Globally, Telcordia is a $770 million company specialising in the development of fixed, mobile and broadband communications software and services.

According to Ashok Sapra, Managing Director, MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions, “We have a 10-year licence from the department of telecom (DOT) for implementing number portability services in South and East India. We will invest close to $10 million for building infrastructure in Bangalore, Kolkata and Gurgaon. IBM India is our partner in the project and we are using its datacentre for running the application.”

As part of its first phase rollout plans, number portability services will be implemented in Kolkata in the six months from the date of license signing. The services will be rolled out in the West Bengal telecom circle in the second phase, which is the subsequent six months. In effect, number portability will be rolled out in the entire state of West Bengal by April 2010.

As one of the market leaders in number portability deployments , Telcordia has managed more than 700 million porting transactions across 14 countries.
