Computer maker Dell is bullish on the smartphone market in the country and is planning to introduce more devices in the coming months to cater to the surging demand here.

"The mobile phone business is doing really well and we have received tremendous response to the devices. Though the category is still in nascent stage, we are confident of it growing significantly," Dell India Executive Director and GM (Consumer and SMB) Mahesh Bhalla told PTI.

Dell has five models of smartphones and tablets in India, he added.

Dell India offers Dell Streak5, XCD35, Dell Venue and Dell Venue Pro in the mobile division.

Talking about new launches, he said the company is looking at introducing handsets based on various operating systems like Microsoft Windows and Android.

"Dell as a company is about democratising technology. We want to be present across all categories and we are looking at all operating systems," Bhalla said.

Asked if Dell would also look at introducing low-cost handsets, Bhalla said, "No, there are no such plans as of now."

"India is not a market driven by prices alone, people seek value. Our smartphones are already available in the sub-Rs 10,000 category and we offer an experience, the focus is not on cutting prices, but providing features," he added.

On tablets, Bhalla said the market is still small in India to predict the future of the device.

"Tablets are a great form factor, but has still not become a productivity device. It is still difficult to look into the crystal ball and predict. Only time will tell," Bhalla said.
