The Nashik district administration has set up a special committee to create skilled IT & Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) manpower and promote Nashik as a BPO destination. The committee under the chairmanship of the district magistrate Mahesh Zagde includes GM, district industry centre (DIC), joint director, self-employment department and other officials. MITech, a Pune-based voluntary institute, is also a member of this committee."IT and BPO companies have still not come here and Nashik's IT Park has been lying idle for the last three years and not a single IT company has come here. After saturation of IT industry in Bangalore and Pune, there is tremendous scope for IT companies in Nashik in next few years. Skilled workforce is a raw material for the IT & BPO companies and they are doubtful whether skilled manpower will be available at Nashik," said Zagde. The committee will conduct aptitude tests of 12+ and graduate students from all streams in June 2006. Selected candidates will be trained through workshops by Pune-based institute - MITech. The list of about 2,500 students will be sent to BPO companies. This committee will also attempt to attract IT & BPO companies to set up their units in Nashik. We will also give presentation to IT majors, informing them about the ITpotential of Nashik city, Zagde said."Today, growth of IT industry is 250% and there are tremendous job opportunities in this sector. Around 50 IT and BPO companies are planning to set up their units in cities like Nashik, Aurangabad and Kolhapur," said Sudam Choure, president, MITech, Pune.
