Polycom, a provider of unified communication and video and voice conferencing solutions, will be launching Polycom Touch Control, a graphical interface device, in the Indian market by the middle of this September, according to Marc-Alexis Remond, director (government, education and healthcare solutions) for Polycom Asia.
“We realised that in many cases customers need the assistance of the IT department to set up a vide conference or they don’t even know how to use a remote control. Touch Control is designed using an interface similar to the iPhone with three icons (directory, place a call and share content),” he told Business Standard on the sidelines of eIndia 2010, held recently in Hyderabad.
The 7-inch, tap-and-touch-control device enables users to quickly initiate video conferences, free from complicated interfaces or technical support, and reducing the video conferencing learning curve.
Remond said the company was also lining up Polycom H 264 High Profile, a compression technology that will reduce the bandwidth requirements for high-definition telepresence and standard definition video conferencing by 60 per cent, for launch during the same time.
Stating that Polycom currently had 60 per cent market share in the government sector in India, which includes public safety, security, defence, education and healthcare, he said the company was closely working with its partners to maintain its leadership position in this space. “We are now looking at targeting other industries like manufacturing, finance and retail in the domestic market,” Remond added.
