Nirma Institute of Technology (NIT), affiliated with Nirma University completed its placements with average salary of Rs 1.8 lakh per annum with highest package of Rs 4.6 lakh per annum offered at any engineering college in the state.

Infosys and Larsen and Tubro have for the first time picked up students from NIT and accorded them status in the league of Indian Institute of Technology and Regional Engineering Colleges, claims the institute.

Cognizant emerged as the biggest recruiter for NIT with 65 intakes with average salary of Rs 2.60 lakh per annum. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was the second with 45 intakes.

"Placements have been very impressive with companies such as TCS, Cognizent, Infosys, Mahindra British Telecom and Intel visiting the campus. we have also placed significant number of students of 2006 batch in advance. our students have also received the biggest package offered anywhere in the state," said Sachin Sehgal, placement and training officer, NIT.

Sehgal said it had been one of the toughest times where the companies were demanding the slots for coming to campus for placements and they did not have any left for them. NIT offers engineering degree in eight branches such as computer science, electronics & communications, instrumentation, mechanical and electrical.

On reasons behind the encouraging response from corporates, Sehgal said, "NIT prepares its students well in advance for campus recruitment. We put emphasis on all round development which includes the soft skill knowledge and management approach."
