Samsung Galaxy Note 9's computing platform makes it a game changer

The S-Pen is now an independent unit, which allows it to double up as a remote to take pictures

Samsung’s Galaxy Note series has always been about big screens, enhanced productivity features and the S-Pen. The Galaxy Note 9 builds on the same foundation. This edition is a feature-rich package that offers the best of the Galaxy 

S- and Note series, which makes it the only smartphone that can be termed a complete package. Nothing is missing, not even the 3.5mm audio jack.

The Galaxy Note 9 looks similar to the Note 8, except for the rear, which now accommodates the dual cameras and fingerprint sensor separately. The phone is massive — a 6.4-inch super AMOLED unit —and could be cumbersome for daily use. The display with a QHD+ (2960 x 1440) resolution is HDR10-compliant and features a 3D-touch home button. It also has an “always-on” mode, which allows you to take notes using the S-Pen. The S-Pen is now an independent unit, featuring Bluetooth connectivity, which allows it to double up as a remote to take pictures, change slides during a presentation or control a YouTube video without touching the screen.

The Note 9 is a game changer in terms of productivity owing to the DeX mobile computing platform. DeX allows Samsung’s premium devices such as the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 to be transformed into full-fledged computing platforms when connected to big screens. The phone’s Exynos 9810 system-on-chip and the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage give it enough power to keep it running smoothly.

The Note 9 takes the front and back cameras straight from the Galaxy S9. It sports a dual 12-megapixel shooter on the rear and an 8MP selfie camera. It also boasts intelligent scene-selection algorithms that automatically identify close to 20 modes and adjust the camera setting accordingly. This feature enables the Note 9 to deliver better results than the already astonishing Galaxy S9-series camera.

The Note 9 is fantastic for gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. It now has AKG-tuned stereo speakers, which offer immersive surround sound. Even after extended gaming or video-recording sessions, the phone shows no sign of lag, stutter or heating up. The phone comes with a 4,000 mAh battery that lasts almost a day. But its features seem power-hungry and the battery drains rather quickly if one uses the phone to full capacity.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a pretty perfect package. The only downside is the hefty price tag of Rs 67,900. But given its features and utility, that may be an investment worth making.
