"We are looking at doubling our market share to 15 per cent in 2008, which at present is around 7-8 per cent. The company will make required investments in building the brand, expanding channels and rolling out new models," said Sunil Dutt, country head (mobile business), Samsung India.
To increase the market size, the company will launch 18 new models in the next two-three months in the country.
"We are launching five new models in March itself," Dutt said.
The company was also looking at tying up with operators to sell its mobile phones through the latter's channels, he said.
He, however, did not comment on the proposed investment, but said, "We will invest whatever is required to gain market share."
The company has also announced Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador and has increased the total number of distributors to four in the country.
"With Aamir Khan as our brand ambassador, our strong, differentiated product line-up and enhanced distribution reach, I am confident that we should be in a position to double our market share in the Indian market this year," H B Lee, president and CEO, Samsung (south west Asia), said.
