The environment and forest ministry has given its clearance for the Phase-III expansion project of Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.

The first IT building on the campus, with a built-up area of 1 million sft, is scheduled to commence operations by the second half of 2011. This new building is being planned as a landmark icon for Technopark, incorporating the latest trends in technology including green building concepts, said Ajay Kumar, principal secretary (IT) and chairman of Technopark.

The park has already commissioned a 110 KV substation to supply power to the new campus as well as for the adjacent Phase-II campus. Other infrastructure such as water supply and modern facilities for treatment and disposal of liquid and solid wastes will also be ready along with the building. Besides, arrangements for storage and disposal of electronic wastes are also being made.

A direct approach road from the national highway bypass is also planned to reduce the pressure on existing roads. This road will have solar-powered LED street lights. Around 1,200 cars can be parked in the first stage, a Technopark press release said.

Along with the construction of the new IT building, Technopark is also developing the balance land within the newly acquired 92 acre Phase III campus. The area is being given to private players for development.
