Hoping its new revolutionary product, Pay Per Call, to boost subscriber base in Gujarat, telecom service provider, Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) is aiming to add 1.5 lakh subscribers in the state.
The product, which was launched in Gujarat on Tuesday, does away with the usual pulse of one minute and charges subscribers a fixed tariff on a per-call basis - at Re 1 for all local calls and Rs 3 for STD calls - regardless of the duration of the call.
"Over a period of time, there had been a lot of confusion in the market, especially on the subscribers side over counting the duration of one's calls and the pulse rates. With this product, we have delivered subscribers from the ordeal of counting their duration of calls and talk freely as much as they want. While initially we may lose certain profitablity, over a period of time, we should make some money," said Naveen Bhasin, chief operating officer of Tata Teleservices' operations in Gujarat, refusing to divulge revenue details from the new product.
The Pay Per Call product is initially being introduced on the pre-paid platform, and all subscribers who opt for it will be charged a very nominal daily fee of Re. 1 to avail the unique tariff option.
The service is available on all new Tata Indicom connections, and existing subscribers can adopt the offer with a one-time recharge of Rs 96. Apart from that, SMS would be offered at a special price of 50 paise for both National and local messages.Currently, TTSL enjoys a subscriber base of about 1.5 million in the state of Gujarat.
