Virtusa Corporation, through its operating subsidiary in India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with St Joseph's Engineering College, Chennai, to provide curriculum and training for students in specialised software skills in the areas of data warehousing (DW) and business intelligence (BI).

As part of Virtusa's campus reach programme, aimed at improving collaboration between academia and industry, the MoU entails establishing a high-end data warehousing laboratory.

It will provide curriculum, materials, workshops and case studies reflecting IT industry trends with an emphasis on hands-on learning.

The MoU also envisages special lectures, a project bank for students, and student projects at Virtusa facilities in Chennai, with the goal of enhancing student skills and employability.

The MoU was signed by Keith Modder, executive vice-president and managing director (Asian operations), Virtusa, and B Babu Manoharan, director of St Joseph's College of Engineering, according to a press release on Monday.

"The objective of Virtusa's MoU with St Joseph's Engineering College is to promote effective learning practices that enable students to develop skills for the IT industry, specifically in DW and BI. Through our campus reach programme, Virtusa is committed to improving employability that will enable students to thrive in a global knowledge-based economy," Modder said.Data warehousing is a discipline experiencing growth in organisations globally.

Research indicates that the huge transaction data volume captured by businesses through various database systems creates an opportunity and challenge to aggregate and use that information for more effective decision-making.
