The phone has a 2GB RAM, running on a Snapdragon 615 Octa-core 64-bit processor. It has 16GB of internal storage, and the MiUi 6 interface built on top of Android Lollipop. To keep the price down, the Mi4i comes with a plastic construction, unlike the original handset’s metal and glass.
The big plus about the Mi4i is its price. The phone, priced at Rs 12,999, is less expensive than even the Mi3, the first phone launched by Xiaomi in India.
The device is available in black, white, orange, light blue and pink colours.
The Mi 4i sports a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) fully laminated OGS Corning Concore IPS Sharp JDI display, which is said to provide the same protection as the Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Xiaomi Vice-President Hugo Barra, who was present at the launch, said: “The device is made for India. It took 15 months to make this product. Inspiration for this phone came from Indian consumers’ needs.”
The Mi4i is expected to compete with the freshly launched Asus Zenfone 2, the much talked about MotoG 2nd Generation and the HTC Desire 620g.
Pres-sale registration for the Mi4i begins at 8 pm on Thursday, while its sale will start on April 30, exclusively on e-commerce platform Flipkart.
