Internet major Yahoo! has acquired Indonesian mobile social networking company Koprol for an undisclosed amount.

Koprol allows people to share photos, reviews and access additional information about locations in real time through their mobile phones, Yahoo! said in a statement yesterday.

However, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Users are increasingly relying on mobile devices to communicate and access the Internet and they are looking for seamless integration between those devices and PCs. This is especially true in many emerging markets where we are introducing the Yahoo! brand to many new-to-Net users," Yahoo! Senior Vice President Asia Region Rose Tsou said.

Koprol helps people find local businesses, such as popular shops or restaurants, based on user ratings including a "thumbs-up" feature that elevates favoured places to the tops of the rankings.

In addition, users can also start or join discussions based on particular locations and invite friends to participate.

Besides, Yahoo! also unveiled a BlackBerry application for Koprol, with plans to launch other mobile applications for both local and global mobile platforms in the future.

Last week, Yahoo! had said that it would buy user-generated site Associated Content for in an effort to strengthen content creation.
