Zensar Technologies, the global IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) services firm, on Thursday announced the acquisition of intellectual property rights for point-of"sale (POS) products and customer base of leading domestic IT solutions provider for the retail sector, Seacom Technology.

Seacom is a market leader for POS solutions designed especially for hypermarkets to ensure smooth and uninterrupted flow of voluminous billing process.

Zensar has bought Seacom's POS solutions for the food & grocery retail such as Smart Shop Enterprise, Smart Shop POS and Smart Shop Express. Seacom's customer base includes Indian and Asian top retailers.

The development and support team of Seacom product suites will now become part of Zensar's retail group in Pune.

Siva Rangaswamy, head of retail centre of excellence at Zensar, said, "With this move, Zensar's ability to provide solutions for mission-critical areas such as POS gets strengthened. This enables us to offer an integrated IT and BPO value to retailers obviating their need for multiple vendors."

Ajay Aggarwal, CEO of Seacom, said, "Seacom's solutions are already in use in most of the major hypermarkets in India. This deal will enable Zensar to combine Seacom's leadership in store solutions with Zensar's track record in other retail solutions, to service the needs of the entire spectrum of large global corporate houses to single-store kirana retailers."
