IFFCO Canada Enterprise Ltd, a JV between India’s IFFCO and Canada’s La Coop Federee two agricultural cooperatives, has retained the services of Ganotec Inc, a subsidiary of Kiewit, to finalise contract cost estimates for the proposed fertiliser plant at Becancour, Canada. The move represents an important step towards making the plant a reality.
IFFCO Canada Enterprise Ltd was founded in 2012 in anticipation of the construction and operation of a fertiliser plant at Becancour Port and Industrial Park in central Quebec. Through Investissement Quebec, the project enjoys the financial support of the Government of Quebec. Commissioning of the IFFCO Canada plant has been scheduled for 2017.
Ganotec Inc has been commissioned to assess the final cost of the proposed fertiliser plant at Becancour. Upon completion, IFFCO Canada will have in hand an accurate assessment of project costs which will enable the company to finalise financing and award an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, paving the way for work to commence.
“The process is essential and will enable IFFCO Canada to make an enlightened decision with regard to project investments going forward. At present, Ganotec Inc is considered the principal contractor for the EPC contract,” stated Manish Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, IFFCO Canada.
For the purpose of this mandate, Ganotec Inc will be collaborating with Maire Tecnimont Group of Italy which has been selected as technology provider and integrator. The group has a solid track record in the oil and gas, petrochemical and fertiliser sectors. Through their subsidiary Stamicarbon BV, urea licensing market leader, Maire Tecnimont will provide urea process technology. Through Tecnimont, another subsidiary, the group has been chosen as process engineering and equipment provider for Ganotec Inc. Ammonia process technology will be supplied by KBR, a US company with 70 years of experience in process design. KBR currently equips over half of the world’s ammonia production plants. All technologies selected are proven and world renowned.
