L&T Technology Services Limited (LTTS), a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) that focuses on engineering R&D services, has entered into a partnership with the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to jointly work towards innovations in the areas of sensors and energy efficient systems based on nanotechnology.

“Digital transformation is at the centre-stage of evolution pursuits of global organisations. With the scope of innovation avenues opening up, the situation calls for increased co-optive associations from the value chain players. L&T Technology Services has been at the forefront of consistently forging new tie-ups with global majors, and we are very pleased to partner an academia of the repute of CeNSE, IISc to drive further innovations,” said Dr Keshab Panda, CEO & managing director, L&T Technology Services Ltd.

Nanotechnology is a rapidly expanding area of research with potential to revolutionise people’s lives by way of driving advancements in technology in agriculture, energy, the environment and healthcare.

Prof Navakanta Bhat, chairperson, CeNSE, IISc, added, “With a global engineering leader like L&T Technology Services Limited as a partner, CeNSE, IISc will be able to leverage R&D in nano science and engineering for sensors, Internet of Things (IoT) and energy efficient systems. We are confident that together we will create an ecosystem for digital transformation for customers, academia and the industry.”

L&T Technology Services will bring its domain expertise in the area of industrial products, power electronics, intelligent buildings and smart campuses, medical electronics, testing and measurements, transportation and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to create a platform for their accelerated digital journey. LTTS is also working closely with CeNSE, IISc in the field of robotics and other related futuristic technologies.

The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) was established in 2010 to pursue interdisciplinary research across several disciplines with a focus on nano scale systems. Through the industry affiliate program, CeNSE collaborates with industry and thereby enables the nucleation of research threads relevant to industry. The centre has been consciously translating the nanotechnology IPs into products for societal impact by incubating startups namely i2n Technologies, PathShodh, Qrera, and GT Silicon. Several products such as the MEMS pressure transducers for aerospace applications, Pathshodh’s Anupath (world’s first multi-analyte handheld device for diabetes) and the Ocean CVD - a semiconductor research equipment for CVD synthesis (in collaboration with KAS technologies for 2D materials) - have been developed.
