Santiago (Chile), Sep 27 (ANI): A number of demonstrators clashed with police in Santiago on Tuesday. These demonstrators had come out in support of four Mapuche indigenous community members, who have been on hunger strike for 113 days. The demonstrators marched on major Santiago thoroughfares, lit fires on the street, causing traffic snarls for evening commuters. Police used water cannons to disperse the agitated demonstrators. Chile's largest native ethnic group, the Mapuche, have been in a struggle with the government as they try to regain land lost during Chile's 19th century expansion southward into Mapuche-held territory.
