Only Germany’s Julian Weber, Poland’s Dawid Wegner and India’s Neeraj Chopra qualified for the javelin throw final by breaching the 84.50-metre mark.

 

The other athletes still have a chance to make the final, but that will be determined after the completion of Group B action, scheduled to begin at 5:15 PM IST.

World Athletics 2025 Javelin throw event LIVE UPDATES: Dawid Wenger comes up with big throw

Poland’s Dawid Wenger improved his throw to 85.67 metres and secured a place in the final by breaching the qualification mark.

 

India’s Sachin Yadav managed a throw of 82.63 metres in his third attempt. Although he did not achieve the qualification mark, he still has a chance to reach the final by finishing among the top 12 athletes.

 

The Group A qualifying event has concluded.

 

In Group B, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem will be in action along with India’s Rohit and Yash Vir.

The road to the medal round is clear. The automatic qualification mark has been set at 84.50 metres. Any athlete crossing this distance in the qualification round will secure a direct entry into the final.

 

But the format ensures fairness. If fewer than 12 athletes breach the 84.50m line, the best remaining throws across both groups will be counted, making sure at least 12 competitors feature in the final. On the other hand, if more than 12 athletes surpass the automatic mark, all of them will advance—raising the stakes for what could become an exceptionally fierce final.
