Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Saturday inaugurated Delhi airport's renovated Terminal 2 (T2), which will be operational from Sunday. T2, built by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) four decades ago, was shut for renovation works in April this year. It has an annual capacity to handle 15 million passengers. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, also the country's largest airport, has three terminals -- T1, T2 and T3, and four runways. It handles more than 1,300 flight movements daily. At the inaugural function, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the airport has an annual passenger handling capacity of over 100 million. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) operates IGIA. On March 20, DIAL said the expanded T1 can accommodate 40 million passengers, and T3 can handle 45 million passengers annually.

The AAI also gave an undertaking that the equipment left behind by Çelebi will not be used by the other ground operators

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has received passenger fees totalling about Rs 2,032 crore till June this year from the private partners operating six airports that were leased out in 2019. The airports at Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram have been leased out to Adani group under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) since 2019. "Private partners of these airports have paid approximately Rs 2,032 crore to AAI as Per Passenger Fee (PPF) till June 2024. "AAI has also received an amount of approximately Rs 2,758 crore from the private partners of these six airports in the form of upfront fee towards the capital expenditure incurred by AAI at these airports," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told Lok Sabha on Thursday. Airports Authority of India (AAI) shelled out nearly 20 per cent higher amount of Rs 796 crore towards repairs and maintenance works of 101 airports in the last financial year, according to official data. Since the fiscal 2021-22, AAI's expenditure towards these activities at the airports has been on the rise. The amount rose to Rs 795.72 crore in the last financial year ended March 2024, from Rs 663.42 crore in 2022-23. In 2021-22, the expenditure towards repairs and maintenance works was Rs 535.02 crore, as per the data shared by the civil aviation ministry with the Rajya Sabha. A Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was grounded after take-off on Monday due to a technical snag, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said here. The flight returned to Bhopal's Raja Bhoj International Airport after take-off due to the snag in the morning, he said. It was carrying 183 passengers, 117 of whom were adjusted in another aircraft in the evening by cancelling a Delhi-bound flight, the official informed.
