Pipeline Infrastructure Ltd (PIL) and Crown LNG Holdings Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish pipeline connectivity between Crown LNG's proposed terminal and PIL's existing pipeline network in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The MoU was signed on July 10 by PIL Managing Director Akhil Mehrotra and Crown LNG Holdings Ltd CEO Swapan Kataria, official sources said. The MoU is for establishing connectivity between Crown LNG's proposed 7.2 million tonnes a year Gravity-based Structure and Regasification Unit (GBSRU) at Kakinada and the PIL pipeline, subject to satisfaction of various terms and conditions. PIL is a special-purpose vehicle owned by Energy Infrastructure Trust (InvIT), that owns and operates a nearly 1,400-km pipeline from Kakinada to Baruch in Gujarat. This pipeline is used by companies like Reliance Industries Ltd for transporting natural gas produced from offshore fields to users. In a significant change to regulations, oil and gas regulator PNGRB has proposed a new policy of how tariffs for pipelines carrying gas to users will be determined, and proposed charging city gas entities selling CNG and piped cooking gas to households at the lowest rates. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has floated a public consultation document for changing the zonal tariffs levied on pipelines that carry natural gas from fields producing it or from import ports, to users such as power plants that make electricity from it, or fertiliser units that manufacture urea from it, or city gas entities that turn it into CNG for sale to automobiles and pipe it to household kitchens for cooking purposes. The construction of the Rs 12,940-crore 'Urja Ganga' gas pipeline, India's most ambitious project taking environment-friendly fuel to eastern parts of the country, has been delayed by nine months and will now be completed by March 2025, state-owned GAIL (India) Ltd said. The 3,306-kilometre Jagdishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra pipeline was originally targeted for completion by June 2024. But due to "delay in right of use (RoU) availability", the completion schedule has been revised "from June 2024 to March 2025", GAIL said in a stock exchange filing. The bulk of the pipeline has already been constructed, and gas has started to flow in most cities along the route. Traditionally, natural gas was available for use as fuel to generate electricity, make fertiliser or turn into CNG and cooking gas only in the western and northern parts of the country, as pipelines taking the fuel from source to users were limited to these parts. Kalpataru Projects International on Tuesday said it has secured an order from Saudi Arabia's energy major Aramco for laying 800 kilometres of gas pipeline. Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (KPIL) has received the letter of intent (LoI) from Aramco for carrying out engineering, procurement and construction works for three packages of the third expansion phase of the Master Gas System Network (MGS-3) in Saudi Arabia, KPIL said in a statement. The EPC work scope covers laying of over 800 kms of lateral gas pipeline, it said, adding that the value of the project will be confirmed upon contract execution. MGS-3 project aims to expand the existing gas network to supply gas to various industrial consumers. This expansion is expected to enhance Aramco's ability to meet the growing energy demand in Saudi Arabia and replace liquid fuel burning, contributing to Saudi Arabia's drive towards a diverse energy mix. State-owned gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd on Monday reported a 10-fold jump in its third quarter net profit as all engines of its business -- from gas transportation to marketing and petrochemicals -- fired on all cylinders. Standalone net profit of the the nation's largest gas transmission and marketing firm came at Rs 2,842.62 crore in October-December -- the third quarter of the current fiscal year that started in April 2023 -- as compared to Rs 245.73 crore earning a year back, the company said in a statement. The net profit was better than Rs 2,404.89 crore earning in the preceding quarter. This came on the back of pre-tax earnings from the gas transportation business jumping nearly three-fold to Rs 1,215.07 crore. Also, natural gas marketing saw a turnaround, posting a pre-tax earning of Rs 1,880.42 crore as opposed to a loss of Rs 86.02 crore in October-December 2022. Authorities briefly ordered evacuations for most of the town of Middleton, Idaho, after a gas line exploded at nearby rural intersection late Thursday morning. Canyon County Sheriff's spokesperson Joe Decker said he did not yet know if any injuries were reported in connection with the explosion in southwestern Idaho. He said people within a 4-mile (6.4-km) radius of the explosion including the town of about 10,600 people were ordered to evacuate while authorities evaluated the situation. The evacuation order was lifted a short time later after the sheriff's office confirmed the gas to the line had been shut off, and residents were directed to shelter in place instead. Shortly after the explosion, people reported hearing rumbles around the area, Decker said. Residents were alerted to the evacuation order by a reverse 911 call, he said.
Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and GAIL India have signed an interconnection agreement to connect the North East Gas Grid (NEGG) of IGGL with the Barauni Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL) of GAIL, according to an official release on Saturday. The agreement was signed by IGGL chief executive officer Ajit Kumar Thakur and GAIL's zonal chief general manager R Choudhury here on Friday. The interconnection agreement will facilitate connection of the NEGG with the BGPL at three locations - Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and Baihata and Panikhaiti in Assam, Thakur said. The interconnection agreement will pave the way for making the NEGG a part of the National Gas Grid, he said. The pipeline for interconnection will be laid by GAIL at an estimated cost of Rs 15.16 crore. The amount will be reimbursed by IGGL to GAIL. Investigators found traces of subsea explosives in samples taken from a yacht that has been one aspect of a probe into the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea last year, European diplomats have told the United Nations Security Council. They say that the investigation hasn't yet established who the perpetrators were and whether a state was involved. Denmark, Sweden and Germany have been investigating the Sept 26 attack, and the Danish Foreign Ministry tweeted a letter Tuesday from the three countries' UN ambassadors to the president of the Security Council with information on their activities so far. GAIL (India) Ltd, the nation's largest gas distributor, beat Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to win a licence to build a gas pipeline from Gurdaspur in Punjab to Jammu, oil regulator PNGRB said. In a statement, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) said it had in January invited application cum bids for grant of authorisation for the Gurdaspur-Jammu pipeline. "The last date for submission of bids for the Gurdaspur-Jammu natural gas pipeline was May 17, 2023. Two bidders namely, GAIL (India) Ltd and Indian Oil Corporation have submitted their bids," it said. Both bidders were found to be technically qualified and financial bids were opened on June 21. "As per preliminary evaluation of the financial bids, it appears that GAIL (India) Ltd has the highest composite score and is the successful bidder for the Gurdaspur-Jammu natural gas pipeline," it added.
