India's PC penetration, at up to 20 per cent, presents a huge market opportunity, and the industry must explore innovative strategies to put PCs in every household and workplace, according to Ipsita Dasgupta, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, HP India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. She said India's GDP growth, its status as among the world's youngest population, and its clout as the second-largest GCC hub globally are differentiating it from other markets worldwide. "The market has been growing at a slower pace than we would like, but really, what makes the market an enormous opportunity is the low PC penetration. India has less than 20 per cent PC penetration," Dasgupta told PTI in an interview. PC maker HP India is set to sign an agreement with electronics contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies' subsidiary Padget Electronics to make the company's notebooks, desktops and all-in-one PCs under the PLI 2.0 scheme in India, a joint statement said on Monday. The production will take place at a new facility of Padget Electronics being established in Chennai. "Padget Electronics Private Limited intends to enter into an MOU with HP India Sales Private Limited to carry out manufacturing of notebooks, desktops, and all-in-one PCs under PLI 2.0, subject to signing of definitive agreements in due course," the statement said. PC maker HP has joined hands with Google to manufacture Chromebooks in India from October 2, the company said on Thursday. The Chromebook devices will be manufactured at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops since August 2020, it said in a statement. "Manufacturing Chromebook laptops in India will allow Indian students to get easy access to affordable PCs. By further expanding our manufacturing operations, we continue to support the Make in India initiative of the government," HP India, Senior Director - Personal Systems, Vickram Bedi said. HP is one of the applicants under the government's Rs 17,000 crore production linked incentive scheme for IT hardware.
