The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has recommended the inclusion of several communities from Maharashtra into the Central List of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). In an advisory to the government issued on Wednesday, the NCBC proposed adding communities such as Lodh, Lodha, Lodhi; Badgujar; Suryavanshi Gujar; Leve Gujar, Reve Gujar, Reva Gujar; Dangari; Bhoyar, Pawar; and Kapewar, among others. The decision followed hearings held by the NCBC's two-member bench, comprising chairperson Hansraj Gangaram Ahir and member Bhuvan Bhushan Kamal, a statement said. These hearings took place in Mumbai on October 17, 2023, and July 26, 2024. After thorough deliberations, the commission submitted its advice to the Union government on October 8, 2024, for the inclusion of these castes under the OBC category for Maharashtra, it said. The Bombay High Court has refused to pass any urgent orders on a plea seeking for the Special Backward Class (SBC) to be included as a reserved category in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development (MHADA) lottery for housing allotments. The petitioner, Deepal Shahu Shirvale, had sought that the lottery, to be declared on Monday, be stayed pending hearing of the plea or for the SBC to be included in the reserved category. A division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and Neela Gokhale in their order on August 11 refused to pass any orders granting urgent interim relief on the plea, noting that there was no urgency. MHADA's advocate Uday Warunjikar opposed the plea and said the housing body has the power to frame rules and regulations. Haryana State Backward Classes Commission on Tuesday submitted its report related to reservation for the backward class people in the upcoming elections to panchayati raj institutions. The report has been prepared on the basis of suggestions collected from people across the state. The report by the commission, which is headed by former judge of Punjab and Haryana high court Justice Darshan Singh, was submitted to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. "Haryana State Backward Classes Commission has prepared its report on the basis of suggestions collected from people across the state regarding reservation for backward classes in the elections of panchayati raj institutions.
