The UK Parliament is expected to be briefed by the defence minister later on Tuesday after reports of a massive data breach involving the Ministry of Defence (MoD) targeting service personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. According to the BBC, the government suspects China was behind the hack of the armed forces payroll system that is run by an external contractor and includes data of both current and some past armed forces members. However, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps is not expected to directly name China when he updates members of Parliament in the House of Commons as the investigation remains ongoing. The system used by the MoD includes names and bank details of armed forces personnel and in a very small number of cases, the data may include personal addresses. Government sources have stressed that no operational MoD data has been obtained in the hack, the motive behind which remains unclear. The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 17.28 lakh new members in October, according to provisional payroll data released on Friday. Around 23,468 new establishments have been registered and brought under the social security umbrella of the ESIC in October 2023, ensuring more coverage, the Labour Ministry said in a statement while releasing the payroll data. Around 17.28 lakh new employees have been added in October 2023, the ministry said. More jobs have been generated for the youth as out of the total 17.28 lakh employees added, 8.25 lakh employees up to the age group of 25 years constitute new registrations, which is 47.76 per cent of the total employees. Net enrollment of female members was 3.31 lakh in October, according to the data. A total of 51 transgender employees were registered under the ESI Scheme in the month of October. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday said it has bagged a deal from British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) to change their finance, procurement and HR applications management. The company will leverage AI-driven human-machine collaboration suite, TCS Cognix in the multi-year partnership, the company said in a BSE filing. "TCS will also provide application management and change delivery services for the broadcaster's application estate supporting the finance, procurement and HR functions," the statement read. Amit Kapur, Country Head, UK and Ireland at TCS, said that the partnership will "strengthen TCS' position as a leader in delivering transformative business services to the media and entertainment industry". The Indian IT services giant has been operating in the UK for 45 years and tops software and IT services supply in the region in revenue terms. It employs 21,000 people in the UK and Ireland, making it among the region's biggest IT employers.
