Chipset major Qualcomm expects shift of the Indian market towards the premium device segment will drive adoption of the company's latest and premium smartphone processor Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the country. Qualcomm Technologies Group General Manager, Mobile, Compute, & XR (MCX), Alex Katouzian said that India has become a prime market for the company as it is gaining from the government's push for manufacturing, artificial intelligence and active involvement of home grown companies like Flipkart, Lenskart etc. "I think the Indian market is turning more and more into a premium tier. So I think (Snapdragon) 8 Gen 5 will get accepted quite a bit. The reputation of Snapdragon in India is really good. Recently we got data that we are number one in branding as well," Katouzian said. TCS on Wednesday said it has partnered with Qualcomm to set up an innovation lab in Bengaluru to develop smart and scalable capabilities for enterprises. The 'TCS Innovation Lab', equipped with 5G private network infrastructure and other hitech network and equipment, will develop capabilities for sectors that need agile IoT solutions, such as security and surveillance, healthcare, smart infrastructure, and manufacturing, the company said in a regulatory filing. "Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Qualcomm will co-create smart, scalable, and sustainable Edge AI capabilities utilising Qualcomm platforms for industries moving towards a software-driven approach to make their systems more efficient and resilient in the lab. "The co-innovation lab will enable the creation of customised low-cost solutions that can be deployed on intelligent devices, on location and in real time to streamline processes at large enterprises," it said. US-based chip major Qualcomm is localising automotive module production in India and is supporting its top-tier ecosystem partners in their plan to move manufacturing into the country, a senior company official has said. Qualcomm Technologies, group general manager for automotive, industrial and embedded IoT, Nakul Duggal, told PTI that the company is investing heavily in India to support local automotive companies. "We build a lot of modules. Those modules are typically built in Taiwan, or China, or Korea, but we are now actively working in India to localise this. We, of course, partner with our Tier 1 ecosystem, such that as they move their manufacturing to India, we have been supporting them," he said. Duggal said that Qualcomm is a fabless company, which means it designs the chips but doesn't manufacture them. Realty firm Mindspace Business Parks REIT has acquired Sustain Properties, which owns 18.2 lakh office space in Hyderabad, at an enterprise value of Rs 2,038 crore as part of its plan to expand rent-yielding portfolio. Mindspace REIT will acquire 100 per cent equity in Sustain Properties Pvt Ltd at an equity value of Rs 613 crore. The shareholders of Sustain Properties will be allotted units in Mindspace REIT as consideration. The deal is expected to close by the end of March. In a regulatory filing, Mindspace REIT informed that the board has approved "acquisition of 100 per cent equity shareholding of Sustain Properties holding about 1.82 million (18.2 lakh) square feet of leasable area at 'Commerzone Raidurg', located at Raidurg, Hyderabad, from the shareholders of Sustain. The office space has been leased to Qualcomm. The board has approved the issuance of up to 16,168,090 units of Mindspace REIT, on a preferential basis, as consideration for acquisition at a price of Rs 379.08
