Renault India on Friday reported an over two-fold increase in domestic wholesales at 5,413 units in April 2026 as compared to 2,602 units sold in the same month last year. The company has started the new fiscal on a strong note, and the robust performance reflects sustained double-digit growth witnessed since the launch of the new-generation Renault Triber and Kiger in September 2025, Renault India said in a statement. The newly launched Renault Duster has received a strong market response, with demand picking up in the very first week of the commencement of deliveries in the latter part of April, it added.
French automaker Renault is undertaking a restructuring of the group's operations in India with plans to separate powertrain production from vehicle manufacturing and sales operations, the company said on Thursday. Renault Group India has approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for approval of a proposed structural realignment of its India operations, it said in a statement. "It envisages the powertrain manufacturing activity being organised as a dedicated powertrain entity within Renault Group India, while vehicle manufacturing and sales operations are brought together under an integrated operating structure," it said. The proposed realignment is aimed at creating clearer and more focused operating structures. French auto major Renault is adopting a two-platform strategy in India to address the segment below Rs 10 lakh while pursuing a full multi-energy flexibility for vehicles longer than 4 metres, as it looks to expand its product portfolio to seven by 2030. The company, which offered models, such as Kwid, Kiger and Triber on its CMFA platform in the past, is evolving into a new RGEP -- Renault Group Entry Platform -- as it aims to address customer expectations like native factory-fitted CNG, newer powertrains, and next-generation digital and electronic architecture, according to Renault Group in India CEO Stephane Deblaise. On the other hand, for scale and electrification, the company is using the new RGMP -- Renault Group Modular Platform, which will drive the next phase of its growth in India while laying the foundation of the company's electrification strategy. Renault India on Thursday reported a 33.4 per cent increase in sales to 3,845 units in December 2025 compared to the same month of 2024. The company said it witnessed strong sales acceleration in the second half of CY2025, driven by consistent improvement in quarterly performance and a sharp surge in December. "The H2 performance of CY2025 clearly reflects the direction we have taken for Renault in India. After a phase of portfolio transition, the consistent recovery from Q3 onwards, culminating in a strong Q4 and our best monthly performance in December, confirms that the course correction we initiated is delivering tangible results," Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise said. On the road ahead, he said, "With the right building blocks now in place, we are entering the next phase with confidence, and the return of the iconic Duster will mark a significant step forward in Renault's renewed journey in India".
French auto major Renault is looking for the EV ecosystem in India to mature before getting into the space. The company also said it is expecting to complete the acquisition of Nissan stake in the Chennai manufacturing plant "very soon." Earlier, Renault rolled out the all-new, seven-seater Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Triber at a starting price of Rs 6.29 lakh (ex-showroom). "We are doing our analysis. European mass market automotive brands Renault, Volkswagen, and Skoda continue to struggle to enhance presence in the Indian market, witnessing sales decline in the last three financial years, industry data showed. According to data by JATO Dynamics, a leading provider of data and analytics to the global automotive industry, Renault saw the biggest sales dip in India to 37,900 units in 2024-2025 from 45,439 units in 2023-2024, and 78,926 units in 2022-2023. Similarly, Skoda's sales in India in 2024-2025 were at 44,866 units, marginally higher from 44,522 units in 2023-2024, but down from 52,269 units in 2022-2023. On the other hand, the Volkswagen brand posted sales of 42,230 units in 2024-25, down from 43,197 units in 2023-2024. The brand had clocked sales of 41,263 units in 2022-2023. French auto major Renault group has sought approval from fair trade regulator CCI to buy out its Japanese partner Nissan's remaining 51 per cent stake in their Indian manufacturing joint venture -- Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd. Renault Group B V and its nominee Renault SAS have proposed to acquire the entire shareholding of the Nissan entities in Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL). "The proposed combination relates to the acquisition of equity shares and fully paid-up zero-coupon non-convertible redeemable preference shares held by Nissan Motor Company Ltd Japan and Nissan Overseas Investments B V in the target (RNAIPL) by acquirer 1 (Renault Group B V) and its nominee, acquirer 2 (Renault SAS)," a notice filed with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) said on May 16. Automaker Renault India on Thursday said it will increase prices of its entire model range by up to 2 per cent from April. The extent of the increase will vary for different variants and models, the company said in a statement. The decision comes in response to the constantly increasing input costs that the company has been absorbing for a significant period, it added. "Despite our best efforts to maintain prices for a long time, the sustained increase in input costs has necessitated this price adjustment," Renault India Country CEO and MD Venkatram Mamillapalle said. The company has been absorbing these costs for a long time to support customers, but to continue providing the best quality and innovative products, a price revision has become inevitable, he added. This is the first price hike announced by Renault India since Feb 2023, the automaker noted.
