Traffic movement will be restricted at several key crossings in Delhi on January 17, 19, 20 and 21 due to rehearsals for the Republic Day parade along Kartavya Path, police said on Friday. According to an advisory, the rehearsals will be held from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, with the parade route extending up to the C-Hexagon. To ensure the uninterrupted movement of the parade, restrictions will be in place from 10.15 am to 12.30 pm on all four days. During this period, traffic crossings at Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road and the C-Hexagon will remain closed. Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will also remain closed for general traffic, leading to diversions and likely congestion on adjoining stretches. Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys, exercise patience and follow traffic rules and directions of personnel deployed on duty. Top European Union leaders Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen will be the chief guests at India's 77th Republic Day celebrations, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday. Costa and von der Leyen will undertake a three-day visit to India beginning January 25 and the two sides are expected to announce firming up of the much awaited India-EU trade pact during their trip. India and the European Union (EU) have been strategic partners since 2004. The bilateral ties have expanded and deepened across a wide range of areas, particularly following the historic visit of EU College of Commissioners to India in February last year, the ministry said. At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be on a state visit to India from January 25 to 27, it said. The MEA said the two European leaders will be the chief guests at the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the government is working on a model to allow farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers, reducing middlemen's role. Interacting with about 400 farmers after the Republic Day parade at Pusa campus, Chouhan emphasized that the "farm to consumer" model will help farmers get maximum benefits, an official statement said. "Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy and farmers are its soul. Without farmers, India cannot prosper," he said.
