Indian Captain’s Perspective

Rohit Sharma, reflecting on the toss outcome, maintained that the decision is inconsequential. "They won the toss, so our plan is to bowl first," he explained. He noted that the pitch conditions mirror those of their previous outing—on the slower side—adding that his experienced batting unit is well-equipped to adapt should the surface further decelerate. "We require a comprehensive performance from both our batting and bowling departments. The last match was challenging, which only helped us grow under pressure, especially against the same opposition," Sharma added.

Pakistan’s Approach

Mohammad Rizwan, leading Pakistan from the front, is confident in the surface's potential. "We will bat first and aim to post a strong total," Rizwan stated. Emphasising the significance of every contest in ICC events, he noted that his team is accustomed to these conditions and intends to capitalise on that familiarity. "We may have lost our previous match, but that is behind us now. There is also a change in our line-up – Fakhar is out, and Imam is in," he remarked.

India vs Pakistan LIVE UPDATES: Playing 11 to be unveiled at 2 PM IST

In the Champions Trophy, Pakistan stride in as the defending champions yet resemble little more than a shadow of the team that clinched glory in 2017.

With a single loss now threatening elimination – the sting of their opening defeat to New Zealand still fresh – the pressure mounts. Recent years have witnessed Pakistan cricket suffer a precipitous decline, marred by a surprising loss to Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup and another setback against the United States in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

On paper, the side appears vastly outclassed by their fierce rivals India. However, the unpredictable magic of Pakistan cricket remains ever potent. Memories of their recent victories over India in Dubai – albeit in a different format – offer a glimmer of hope. With their backs to the wall, the burning question is: can Pakistan summon a breathtaking performance from their Babars, their Shaheens and their Rizwans to defy the odds and reignite their Champions Trophy dreams?

India vs Pakistan Playing 11 LIVE UPDATES: Player to look forward today

India: Shubman Gill

There is nothing controversial about this pick, after his recent ODI exploits. Shubman Gill is the ICC Men's top-ranked One-Day International batter, leap-frogging Babar in the buildup to the tournament, and is on track to further separate himself from the chasing pack given his ton in India's opening Champions Trophy match. Pakistan will be planning, scheming, hoping and praying that they find a way to remove India's 25-year-old opener.
