Harvard Business School (HBS) is expanding its presence in India through adoption of more India-based cases and new offerings in Executive Education. The base of Indian case studies at HBS has risen to 90 in the last one year, and will see more additions in the coming time, says the school. &ldquo;There are a lot more new India-focussed cases coming up in the next few years. We are still concentrating on building this up, gathering and creating more teaching material.

Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) has announced its next short-duration course on integrated urban disaster risk reduction (IUDRR), that focuses on proactive mitigation and preparedness. The course will be held in New Delhi from July 17-21, 2012 at the IIHS office. The course will benefit professionals in the area of building science, economics, sociology, urban planning, disaster recovery, business continuity, etc by helping them understand a new frame to deal with disaster risk reduction.

Educational Testing Service, which administers the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), is providing test takers with the option of ScoreSelect, which will allow GRE test takers to decide which test scores to send to the institutions they choose, so that they can send the scores they feel reflect their personal best. Building on the momentum of the 2011 launch of the GRE revised General Test, the ScoreSelect option focuses on helping test takers succeed on the road to an advanced degree because they can approach the test day with more confidence. The new ScoreSelect option will be available for both the GRE revised General Test and GRE Subject Tests, and can be used by anyone with reportable scores from the last five years.

ICICI Bank and ITM University, Chhattisgarh, have launched a specialised certificate course in Retail Banking Sales Management to meet the growing demand of pre-skilled human capital by the banking sector. The course, under the banner of the ICICI Bank Sales Academy in collaboration with ITM University, will be conducted on a fully-residential basis at the university campus in Raipur. The course will be of three months&rsquo; duration, comprising one month of instructor-led classroom activity at the university campus at Raipur, and two months of internship at branches of ICICI Bank. On successful completion of the campus leg of the course, participants would be absorbed as sales trainees on the rolls of the Bank.

Executive education on global B-schools radar 

An Executive MBA (EMBA) is a one-year management programme meant for executives with five to seven years of work experience. Indian B-schools, including most of the Indian Institutes of Management and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, offer a one-year programme under different names. An EMBA is different from the shorter executive education course and the two should not be confused.
