Thanks to the global meltdown, the brain-drain to foreign countries from major institutes like the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is on the wane as of now. Not everyone is calling it a trend, but Indian companies, especially government-owned ones, aren&rsquo;t complaining.

The Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) has achieved a 100 per cent placement for students of its flagship management programme. IIM-B said it completed the placement process in nine days, placing its entire batch of 249 students. A total of 64 students were placed in &lsquo;slot zero&rsquo;. Though the institute did not divulge any details about the salary figures, it did agree that average salary levels have dropped.

The Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C), which completed its placement process for this year in 10 days, saw around 23 per cent drop in its average domestic salaries, compared with last year. The number of job offers, too, went down by 10-20 per cent. However, according to the institute&rsquo;s press statement, if the bonus is calculated, the compensation packages have increased when compared with last year.
