Japan stocks fall as tech shares come under pressure

Japanese stocks ended lower on Monday, with the Nikkei 225 falling 0.7% to 65,528. The decline extended the previous sessions losses as technology and AI-related shares came under pressure ahead of Nvidias earnings report later this week.

Investor sentiment was also weak as global bond yields remained high. Concerns over inflation and rising government debt continued even after the US Treasury announced a surprise bond buyback last week.

Ongoing tensions in the Middle East added to inflation worries, with the US expected to announce new sanctions on Iran. Chip and AI-linked stocks were among the biggest losers, including Kioxia, Advantest, Fujikura, SoftBank Group and Furukawa Electric.

Financial and consumer stocks also declined, with Mitsubishi UFJ, Toyota Motor and Fast Retailing ending lower.
