Stock Market close highlights, Thursday, July 3, 2025: Indian benchmark indices witnessed a positive start and traded with marginal gains for most of the session as investors remained cautious amid hopes of US-India trade deal and FII selling pressure. However, the markets witnessed a late sell-off and settled in red.  After hitting an intraday high of 83,850, the BSE Sensex settled at 83,239.7 levels, down 170.22 points or 0.2 per cent. The NSE Nifty50 also fell 48.1 points or 0.19 per cent to close at 25,405.3 levels.

Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 index settled flat with a positive bias, while Nifty Smallcap100 settled down by 0.26 per cent lower.
The Nifty PSU Bank was the top sectoral laggard, down 0.89 per cent, pulled by selling in Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, UCO Bank and Central Bank. Among others, Nifty Metal, Realty, Bank, Fiancial Services also settled in red.

On the other hand, Nifty Media, Auto, Pharma, Healthcare, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas, and FMCG closed higher.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Expert view

Stock Market LIVE Updates: The domestic equity market continued to consolidate as profit booking followed last week's sharp rally. Investors remain watchful of developments surrounding the potential US–India trade agreement, with the 90-day pause nearing its end. FIIs have turned cautious in the recent days due to premium valuation. Despite these headwinds, sentiment remains supported by optimism surrounding the upcoming earnings season and the weakening US dollar index.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Market expert view

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Markets traded volatile on the weekly expiry day and ended marginally lower, continuing the ongoing consolidation phase. After an initial uptick, the Nifty oscillated sharply in both directions while remaining within Wednesday’s trading range, ultimately closing at 25,405.30. Sector-wise, the trend remained mixed—auto and pharma posted gains, while metal and realty were among the top losers. The broader indices also mirrored this movement and closed on a flat note.

In the absence of any fresh trigger, the mixed trend among heavyweights is capping the Nifty's directional move. However, the overall trend remains bullish and is expected to stay intact unless the index decisively breaks below the 25,200 mark. On the upside, the 25,650–25,750 zone is likely to act as an immediate hurdle.

Meanwhile, individual stocks continue to offer ample opportunities, supported by rotational buying across sectors and noticeable resilience in the broader market. Participants should align their positions accordingly, with a strong focus on stock selection.
