Who is Hemant Soren?

Hemant Soren was born 10 August 1975 and is an Indian politician from Jharkhand, who also served as Jharkhand's 5th Chief Minister from 2019 to 2024 and from 2013 to 2014. He is likewise the working president of the political group in Jharkhand named 'Jharkhand Mukti Morcha'. He has represented the Barhait body constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly since 2014 and from Dumka from 2019 to 2020 and from 2009 to 2014.
 
He was also the leader of the opposition in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019 and a member of the Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand from 2009 to 2010. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2010 to 2013.
 
Hemant Soren was implicated by the Enforcement Directorate on February 1 and faced an arrest in a land scam case. He argues that the central government has done the right thing by doing this.

Personal life and Education
Roopi and Shibu Soren, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder-president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, were Soren's parents and he was born in Nemara, Bihar's Ramgarh district (now in Jharkhand). Hemant has two siblings and a sister. After Durga Soren, his sister Anjali, and his younger brother Basant, who is also an MLA from the Dumka constituency in Jharkhand, he is the third child of all the siblings.
 
His educational degree is Intermediate from Patna High School, Patna, Bihar. According to an affidavit filed before the Election Commission, Hemant signed up for BIT Mesra, Ranchi in Mechanical Engineering, but dropped out. 
 
Political life and Career

2009 – Hemant Soren made his political debut as a Jharkhand-based Rajya Sabha member. From June 24, 2009 to January 4, 2010, he was a member of the upper house. Hemant Soren won the Barhait constituency in Jharkhand for the first time as an MLA.
 
2010 – Jharkhand's Deputy Chief Minister was named Hemant Soren. From September 2010 to January 2013, he worked there.
 
2013- Hemant Soren turned into Jharkhand's Chief Minister in the JMM-RJD-Congress Coalition government.
 
2014- Soren lost the MLA political race from Dumka constituency yet arrived at the assembly as a MLA again from Barhait seat by beating Hemlal Murmu of BJP.
 
2019- Hemant Soren won both Dumka and Barhait in the 2019 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election, making him the state's chief minister for the second time, as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance won the majority.
 
2015 – Soren was named the opposition leader in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly and filled in from 7 January 2015- 28 December.
 
2024- Hemant Soren resigned from his position as Chief Minister of Jharkhand in 2024 before the Enforcement Directorate took him into custody on charges related to a land scam.
 
2022- Hemant Soren continues to serve as the state's chief minister after winning the confidence vote in the Jharkhand assembly in 2022.
 
Awards and honours
In 2019, Soren was awarded the Champions of Change Award, for his prominent work for Dumka and Barhait constituency in the Jharkhand state. The honour was given by Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Vigyan Bhavan New Delhi on 20 January 2020.
 
Controversies 
Soren is currently being investigated by the ED to be in a land scam case. An investigation began at Hemant Soren's residence in New Delhi, from which he had just left minutes earlier, on January 29, 2024. The ED declared him “untraceable” and “missing” for a period of thirty hours. On January 30, 2024, he finally made it to his official residence in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He later admitted that he is deeply rooted among his people. He has skipped nine ED summonses previously.
 
On 31 January 2024, Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. He gave his resignation to the Jharkhand's Governor, C. P. Radhakrishnan, who selected Champai Soren as his assigned replacement.
 
Net Worth 
CM Soren has a fortune in the millions. The information that the chief minister of Jharkhand has provided to the Election Commission of India indicates that his total wealth is measured in crores. It is estimated to be around Rs 8,51,74,195, with a liability of approximately Rs 2 lakh.
 
If we question his assets, they total approximately Rs. 8.52 crore. The yearly compensation he gets for being the top of the state is around Rs 32,64,00. He and his wife have invested in bonds, shares, and debentures with approximately Rs 25 lakh in their account.
 
The hatchback is owned by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand priced Rs 60,000, and the Tata Safari costs around Rs 13 lakh. Kalpana, his wife, owns a Maruti Ciaz that is valued at Rs 5,50,000. He owns a household mar for Rs 3 lakh and a rifle for Rs 55,000.
