The announcement comes within two weeks of Sachin Tendulkar's retirement from cricket.
According to industry sources, Adidas has signed Sharma for Rs 2 crore to sport its brand on his bat. Till recently, Tendulkar was endorsing the brand. Sources in the sports marketing industry has said that Sharma was getting about Rs 40 lakh for endorsements even a year ago. But now, brands are ready to pay Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore, and even more, a year to get Sharma as an endorser.
“Rohit is an inspiration to young, aspiring cricketers and he will be a key driving force for adidas’ cricket equipment business,” said Tushar Goculdas, Brand Director, Adidas India.
Other Indian cricketers like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli also endorse Adidas. Kohli had reportedly signed a Rs 10 crore deal with Adidas.
